The LOBERGER Wine Estate is situated 20 km in the south of Colmar, in a small village called Bergholtz. It is nestled in the hollow of hills of lower-Vosges, an ideal geological cradle for growing great wines; a secret borne by the Alsatian vineyard. It’s in this backdrop that the LOBERGER family, winemakers from father to son, grows their wine with outmost loving care.
Organic agriculture, strict adherence to biodynamic principles, soil preparation, conscientious manual harvesting and low yields are factors that help give our wine a perfect balance and a unique personality.
The Wine Estate covers 8 hectare. It is fragmented and enjoys perfect sunshine thanks to its southeast, south and southwest orientation. Most of the vineyards are situated on the slopes of the hills located in Guebwiller, Bergholtz and Bergholtz-Zell at an altitude ranging from 250 meters to 480 meters. Slopes of some plots are angled at 60%. Among these geologically diverse terroirs spread over 5 km from one side to the other, 3 Grands Crus (KITTERLE, SAERING et SPIEGEL) can be found in different localities such as Weingarten, Meissenberg, Schwarzberg, Schlossberg as well as Trottberg.
Our Wine Estate is a part of an exclusive and close circle of winegrowers-wine producers: we sell our own production.
All our vineyards are treated with outmost care and in full respect of the environment according to central tenets of organic and biodynamic agriculture. All chemical inputs and synthetic products are shunned. Instead we use herbal tea (horsetail, wicker, nettles among others) and several homeopathic preparations to boost the soil and the vine. The results are obvious: rich flora and fauna, vines resistant to diseases and lively wines.
Yields are low, less than average, which enables us to make great wine. Regular and thorough soil tilling, spades, brush-cutter, and back-sprayer for some biodynamic treatments: human hands replace mechanization as much as possible and enable the vine to feel alive by meeting its daily requirements. While ageing in the cellar with least interferences the wines acquire an authenticity and gain in respect typical of their terroir.
